It Can Be Hard to Let Go...

My sweet grandma (Baba) has been gone for 23 years now, but I still miss her and think of her often.  Some of my most precious possessions are things that I have (and use) that belonged to her.  One of those is my canning bath.  I'm not sure how old it is, but many of Baba's things were first her mother's, so it could easily be 100 years or more if that is the case.  But one of my goals is never to kill anyone off with my home canning, and the kettle is somewhat rusty, and sentiment shouldn't take precedence over safety in a situation like this.  So I bought a new one (not a significant investment at $20).  But the real issue became what to do with the old one, since throwing it away didn't feel good at all.

I think it will be very happy in its new role in life......

I think Ava knows this......

"The time to show up fully for life is right now, whatever the circumstances.  Life is a swirling pool of infinite potential at every single moment, and we ourselves either activate or refuse to activate the mystical fertility of the universe."

- Marianne Williamson, from Everyday Grace

My grandma used to take pictures of her flowers

and that seemed like kind of a crazy thing to do.

But it makes sense to me now. Now I am that crazy grandma....

Birthday by the Bay

I got a beautiful day for my birthday and we spent the afternoon at Clayton Beach.  The weather could not  have been more perfect.  After we played at the beach for awhile we got pizza in Fairhaven and had a picnic at Marine Park.  A lovely  day!

Birthday Serenade

Tulip Tradition

We made our annual visit to the tulip fields with Ava this week.  Definitely our most enjoyable  experience yet.  Last year as a 3 year old she had a hard time enjoying the beautiful flowers while leaving them attached to their stems, and we ended up having to make a hasty and somewhat noisy retreat.  This year was much different.

As a 4 year old she was fine with leaving them intact, and this time the real delights for her were the many vast mud puddles.  She had put together her own eclectic outfit, and luckily it included rain boots.  She splashed happily through each one, and was only lured away with talk of ice cream, being served in Tulip Town.
